So, from what I've read on the demo, the loading times are so terrible because I have to download every single combat and scene every time, and everything depends on my awful internet connection.
Honestly, forcing players to endure loading times of more than one minute is not ok, you have to check that system, or release offline versions for the backers, or this will be quite unplayable to those like me who suffer subpar internet connections.
To clarify. Let's say that the Operation Music is downloaded once when you're directed to morning operations phase of the game. That music will be saved inside your local shared object file. Then when you go to the story section of the game (where it uses only the Operation Music) the game does not need to re-download that sound because it's already in the game.
You are correct to assume that additional downloading is indeed required. But like the swf file, you do not need to download again. In terms of the help section of the game, I will rectify this ambiguous answer in preparation for early access to avoid anymore unnecessary confusion.
To make a statement about the game in general, AD3 remains an online game like its predecessor; it downloads the content of the game every time you launch it, just like AD2. If you're a backer and you're unsatisfied with the fact that it's online only, you may ask for a refund, and we shall make an effort to honor it.
Refund policy: Refunds are offered only to backers on Offbeatr or Kickstarter, and only before you unlock any of the content. The logic is that backers may not feel that the final product does not accurately represent the early concept that was presented to them. We ask that backers hold off until they have had a chance to see how AD3 turns out before asking for a refund. This policy is subject to change.
From what I recall, the Kickstarter policy merely recommends that their developers refund any backers that they cannot satisfy (and we've certainly seen devs not refund at all, with no reprisal). We will make an effort to refund you if you're unsatisfied. I'm grateful for anyone that's given us support throughout the years, regardless of whether or not your support is stayed or diminished.
Oh you tease.

DeleteWhat was wrong with the old server? Do they not like porn?
ReplyDeleteWhen AD2 first came out, the game blew up my available bandwidth, so we went dedicated to take the hit.
Deletequick guestion, are you allowed to play the beta even if you did not originaly back the project?

ReplyDeletebeta version is available to all atm. But if you want to play the full game (the basics at least), feel free to wait until we're done with it!

At this point, after the delays and what I'm seeing, I'm sorry to say that's what I'll do, I shall contact you this week with my offbeatr pledge.
DeleteHmm, I hadn't realized a refund was possible.
DeleteGiven that my own needs are not being met one way or another, I may opt for one as well.

I'm so glad the game is coming out soon! Quick question: Did you ever send out the kickstarter/offbeatr supporter posters?
ReplyDeleteEven in beta version, vithout story lines, the game is a very interesting and pretty-looking SRPG. I enjoyed it a lot.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it!
DeleteOne more day until October 2015. How are we doing, boys?
ReplyDeleteWe're roughly around testing time and final tweaks.
DeleteStay tuned in October for the release!
This is gonna be awesome!
