AD3 V1.08

Hello everyone! Jungl3Curr1 here with some more updates. This time, we're bringing in useful features to further improve the game:
  • Improved loading sequence for those with low bandwidth:
    • Added a feature on the splash screen where you can either reload assets or skip loading altogether (WARNING: Skipping the splash screen may not let you view or hear all loaded contents. However, you can just wait for the animated scenes to complete loading whenever possible).
    • Added a feature where you can disable loading of SFX and Voice audio to reduce downloading time.
    • This feature is necessary for players to experience content faster without facing loading issues. The increased loading time will become more apparent as we add more audio and animated content into the game.
  • Fixed a bug where in normal mode, you can date someone who is resting and them let them work afterwards.
  • Now you can view current stamina and morale on the scheduling when a survivor is incapacitated.
  • Moved the tutorial arrow during Veronica's turn where there wasn't a clear enough indication that players need to swap weapons before using the assault rifle Alt Fire.
  • Adjusted text field position and size for incapacitated survivors indication on the right side of the scheduling section.
  • Added names of weapons to character stats display in the battle phase.
  • Added a button for Dossiers Section where you can access inventory section from there.
Some other features will be coming in future patches. Until then, enjoy.

  2. Hey, HentaiCook and Jungl3Curr1. Played the game and liked it just as I do AD1 and AD2. I have to congratulate you on your successful bid at crowdfunding as well as a nicely designed game that departed from your two previous releases. It was a risk, and some of the fans expressed disappointment at how different AD3 was from the previous two (I was not one of these people). This game was truly unique and felt more like a game rather than a dating sim.

I guess here's my review and questions after completing the game four times. I understood your whole game concept as a tactical survival game. Resources being scarce were critical part of the theme and design, but I did feel like things became more frustrating overtime because of the RNG involved while supplies were dwindling. I also felt that managing character stats were difficult and crushing. There were many tough decisions and numerous sacrifices you had to make as the days counted up. I know that was the game design intention, but I have to say I'm glad there's an easy mode now because I don't think I would want to finish it on normal again. Overall, the game was a fun tactical game. I think some of the mixed reviews come from the displeasure of making tough calls and you shouldn't let those reviews get you down.

My suggestion for the next version or next game is to implement more rewards for well-thought out plays to counteract the difficulty. An item to decrease the difficulty counter or set a room to the lowest difficulty would have been really helpful.

I know there's already a tutorial, but there was so much reading of the rules that I misunderstood some things, and I'm sure many people just skipped through it all. I'm not sure if there would be a way to streamline all the game rules other than by reading or more tutorials.

I think another issue would be everyone's skills. You're sort of thrown into the game and have to learn how to play all the different characters from the get-go. Granted if you had more time for development, I could totally see the game with a leveling system. The progression and advancement of characters would have made the game more fun and earning powers incrementally would have made it easier to learn every character's skills at a more manageable pace. This in turn although would create another issue of managing the difficulty due to character's not having skills yet earned.

I only encountered minor bugs in the game including being stuck at 36.4% on one of the dates with Olga (never being able to advance her story in couple playthroughs), levels not ending because there were walls left set up by the rabbits, and Carmen's energy going to negative despite the graphics showing green for her battery.

I enjoyed the amount of work in designing the characters and the overall arching story you created. It's just too bad I didn't unlock any more characters. I found it funny how Beatrice and Carmen from AD2 also made their way into this game as well.

Ryan Hickey's riffs were literally stuck in my head for a week and that is not a bad thing. It was cool to see some usual suspects voicing characters and I thought they did a great job. If you need any more help in that department I could lend a hand in voice work. I find it very cool that you're still updating the game nonstop and I will continue to check on it.

Finally, the couple questions I had were about the endings. I'll be careful to not throw out spoilers. So what are the influencing factors for the True Ending? Are BASIC stats taken into account and/or relationship points? I kept getting the same two endings despite everything I've tried.

Also, has anyone survived the 3 earth years on the station for the alternate ending yet? I'm really curious if someone has earned that and even more curious of that ending. My limit was about 50 days before I had to pull out.

Keep up with improving your artwork and keep chugging.

    1. For the alternate ending, you don't have to reach it.

For the True Ending (Zoe), I'll re post the hint again:

"Zoe would resort to have sex with you in order to get her quick relief. What she really needs is time."

Well since Hentaicook offered anyone to give out answers to those who still is too lazy to figure out the hints, I'll be willing to tell you the answers through email: jungl3curr1@gmail.com

    2. "I think some of the mixed reviews come from the displeasure of making tough calls and you shouldn't let those reviews get you down. "

This is how I feel about how it's being received, and your opinion's not often heard from your perspective.

As for your perspective on level ups... Let's entertain the thought. Let's say the skill numbers increase. So now, by the end of the game, Elaine has 100 repair. Keep in mind though, with buff there is nerf, so while she is better, so are the enemies to counteract it. Does the numeric buff add a strategic layer? Not really.

How about, abilities, like you said. What if everyone only started off with one ability? Keep in mind, this is a game designed for multiple runs. You're starting off at the beginning... do you really want to go through the boring part of having one ability again?

I don't favor leveling up damage buffs either; it's quite nice that the static damages in this game are so easily tunable and easy to understand.

Leveling up technology *was* considered. Here's how it worked: You could assign people to a new task called research, and you could level up the amount of energy you received as well as the maximum capacity. It's certainly a strategic thing to focus on research rather than say, barricades, but ultimately the feature was considered needlessly complex for no real benefit. Going to the barracks or any other map area for items over health is very similar in strategy to a "research" option, so we didn't need another form of it.

The 3 year ending is very short, umm, quality is not ensured with that ending, lol. It basically says "The rescue ship arrived. You're back on Earth. Welcome home". I don't think I cared to elaborate. It's only there because it should be there.

The game's complex enough as it is. The features that make it in are the ones that add strategic depth without making the game too overly mathematic. I'm actually working on a 2min tutorial atm.

    3. Yeah, I was just spitballing ideas. The game design is on point and challenging as intended. I suppose it could use more tutorials with people who are unfamiliar with turn based tactical games. More reward systems might be a plus as well.

For the ending where you evacuate, is it guaranteed that 2+ people won't have a happy ending? I tried all the combos and messed with BASIC stats as well as relationship points and drew the same result.

    4. Well sorry to burst your bubbles but... This is one of the reasons why this game is called Aching Dreams (lol)

Coz their dreams to get out of the station and head for safety has been shattered thanks to other sentients.

Jokes aside, there aren't any really happy endings. Probably the closest thing to a happy ending would be Captain and Normal Zoe. Pretty much the only real changing factor to the ending is Zoe.

    5. No happy endings? Super lame.

    1. We have been testing it, but we haven't got the perfect balance for it yet. We will work hard before that mode is deemed good for release.

    2. thanks for the reply, and i know lovestruck will lower basic requirements and test but will affection be lowered also?

    3. I believe that's the plan as well

  4. Just to make sure I'm not being stupid. You're talking quite a bit about sounds and voices, but I'm not actually hearing them when I start up the game. Are voices now in the game? Or is that me just not understanding the update? Also this is the anon that was having so much trouble about Zoe's ending. Finally got the scene, but no epilogue. Did I miss something?

  5. Hi,

I have a problem scene don't load. I have a message with Olga who says the swf file is still loading.
I have a good internet connection so I think something must block the load but i don't know how to change the option. Someone have the same issue?

    1. Yeah, I get the same thing too now. A lot of people have been. They're working on patching it.

  6. Ok, I'm gonna confess to you all.

The skip loading feature doesn't guarantee that everything will load eventually, in fact if there is an internal error inside the game where the rest of the assets won't load, then chances are the rest will never load (until of course you move onto the next phase of the game).

The reload button actually attempts to load everything again and see if the internal error doesn't occur. But I'm not sure of the success rate of doing so.

The problems people are facing is currently something that we cannot fix easily. We have some vague ideas, but as it stands it's probably something that we can't fix at all. (One idea involves the server capacity being full and that people cannot access the animations)

td;lr: this current patch is mrely a band-aid fix so that players can progress the game without being burdened of having to restart the game manually.

  9. So you're charging people money for features that don't work and you can't fix... That's.. Good.

    1. Jungl3's putting a pretty bad spin on it.

He says he's confessing as if it's broken beyond belief, and you respond as if that's the case.

      "it's merely a band-aid fix"

So players that can't properly load a whole scene will be forced to... reload the scene and wait. To me, that sounds more like Code Red Alert: Showstopper has been downgraded to Code Yellow: 4 minute delay.

Is it wrong to charge for a game that won't work? Absolutely, but we didn't know the severity of the problem, and when finally realized, well, here's a fix.

    2. That guy's lookin at it all wrong. If you were finished with this game, I would see a reason to complain. But you're still working out the kinks. You're doing your best while sifting through our feedback. I think that's more of reason to praise you guys, if anything.

  10. Except it's hardly a fix? The 'reload' doesn't work either. If the scenes frozen you're fucked no matter how many times you hit reload. All you can do is skip it and stare at ".swf not loaded" until the dialogs up. If hitting reload and waiting 4 minutes was all it took to work, I wouldn't give a fuck.

    1. Y'see we didn't know that... (neither of us have the problem).

Point taken, we will warn to buy at your own risk until the issue is resolved.

  11. Do you have any intention of making the game even easier.... I've already purchased andrograde tokens just to get more ammo and yet still struggle with finishing the stories.. I've been a backer for AD2 and a fan of AD1 but cant help but feel that AD3's current iteration is just to tedious to truly enjoy..
