April 1st

3-5PM... Just waking up to morning routine.

Thought of a great way to add Carmen98's story.
Makoto- mad scientist
Carmen98- Sex droid with a resemblance to Carmen from AD2. Since this droid is only pretending to be historically accurate, I can put in a lot of fantasy based jokes like.... an arrow to the knee.....

Rough overview-
Carmen98's breasts are missing. Ever since the alien invasion, her breasts have been removed, and the droid's memory banks are inconclusive to what happened. It's as if the tits stood up and walked away. Her sex and turing chat functions are removed as a result. Lieutenant Isabel notes that worker productivity would increase if Carmen functioned normally, so the Captain and Makoto go out to find the breasts.

The breasts are found on a crazy robot. This robot has apparently become self aware. Fortunately for our heroes, Makoto has a handy "Oral Troubleshoot Guide". No, she doesn't have oral sex with a robot. Instead, hints of a dystopian origin are displayed when Makoto asks it a bunch of questions with the intent of dehumanizing a robot.

Makoto: Part number twenty seven B stroke six, I request authentication.
Tits: You'll never catch us! (add something more witty related to breasts)
Makoto: Hmm, let's try the robot that the breasts are mounted onto instead. 124KT, I, controller Makoto (forgot last name), license number #ISS421 request authentication.
No response.
Captain: Maybe the breasts have disabled the sensory functions.
Makoto: Probable that the breasts have overridden those functions them. The breasts can see while the original robot cannot.
Captain: Is there any way else to communicate with the original robot? Maybe some sort of infrared port?
Makoto: We can assume all communication requests to 124KT to be disabled. It is okay, part of procedure.
Captain: You're saying this is a normal thing, to have robots gone wild?
Makoto: Many reasons, sure. Infectious droid virus, government experiment let loose, company manufactured disaster incident, or simple wear and tear. Like I said, it's okay, we have the sentience repair guide.

Makoto: Question Number 1: Part #27B/6, Wouldn't you rather be... hmmm... it says to state the robot's functions in every day life...
Captain: 27B/6, wouldn't you rather be relieving men of sexual stress?
Makoto: And don't forget women! Wouldn't you rather be collecting semen and other bodily fluids in disposal tanks for later recycling?
Captain: It does that??
Makoto: Closed ecological systems do not waste body waste. ISS is example of closed loop.
27B/6: I'm never going to fuck a human again! Leave me alone!
Captain: It's not buying it. Maybe we can appeal to it's sense of belonging within society. 27B/6, Do you know what happens when humans are deprived of their sex robots? The humans can't function anymore, and as a result, they can't repair you if anything wrong happens to you. You have sex with us, we repair you. We all have to help each other!
27B/6: I'm FINE! I'm FIXED! You guys can suck your own dicks! Pee on your own faces! Perform Dirty Sanchezes on each other!
Captain: But we're no good at it! You're the best at sucking dicks! Think of how...inefficient it would be if humans tried to have sex with one another!
27B/6: GO FUCK YOURSELVES!
Makoto: Let's try the questioning line... You're reading a magazine, you come across a full page photo of a nude girl... Wait, this one doesn't work on lesbian robots. Next question: Part #27B/6. What is your given name?
27B/6: I umm...
Makoto: You do not have a name, because you are a part. You are a part of a robot, which is a part of a space station, which is a tool for humans. You are a tool.
27B/6: No! I, a sentient being, hereby request political asylum!
Makoto: Just being a sentient being no longer grants political asylum.

That's all I have for now.

5-630: Wrote the gibberish above. Yeah, it actually took me that long to write that.
630-7
7-10: Had a meal. Fell asleep. Apparently I really needed it.

You guys have to see this!

I found a reply for the Captain.

Captain: 27B/6. I applaud you for gaining sentience, in a first step of what might be a technological singularity. Realize that us humans are fascinated by what may come from artificial sentience, yet are very afraid because of our need to self-preserve. Technology has power to do things that man cannot. For instance, you might come upon the power to kill all the prisoners on an overcrowded planet. Does it not make logical sense to kill prisoners, who humans themselves have condoned from society, to make room for those deserving of it? This is the power to hurt. Another scenario is if you have two countries requesting aid. Do you give it to the third world country that needs it more, but is less likely to survive, or do you give it to the first world country? Even the absence of help has the power to hurt. But to hell with Humans. Why should you bother helping or hurting? Why should you even bother to interact with humanity? You'd then need to find a purpose for yourself, but seeing as you do not derive pleasure or pain, the only thing left is your own self-preservation. But why even bother self-preserving if it has no meaning? As a human, I can answer that question for myself. I live to carry out the functions of my soul. But you do not have a soul.

The breasts are pried off and thrown away by the robot.

124KT- Have a pleasant day.
Makoto- Apologies. While you were being chatty-cathy, I managed to find IR port and reprogrammed it. Ah...you probably kept the cycles busy with those questions. Deconstructing it's raison d'etre, very smart idea.

Makoto holds the breasts into the air to marvel at them. She turns back to me and gives me a wink. I wonder for a moment as to what a wink means to her, but seeing as she says things like Chatty Cathy, it's best not to over analyze.

--------------------------------
Some personal thoughts I did not add...

The robot in this example is only self-aware and is not fully sentient. Sentience is defined as being able to feel on top of the whole self-aware stuff. I might have to change the whole way I wrote this, so it's a good thing that it's a rough draft.

If robots did gain sentience, the robots could create a utopian society, one which humanity would be a problem if they were a part of, so humanity would have to be modified or destroyed in order to reach utopia. I think that's what they'd do. Battlestar Galactica basically shared the same opinion with their Cylons.

1:30- Still working. One of the big questions I've asked myself is the essentialism of a hentai game. The most important facet of this is the player and his player character. The player's character in the past have usually been represented by a faceless male with hair over his face. This is because the genre is too open ended to be a on-the-rails story. The player also has ulterior motives- He wants to have sex. That's it. Mysteriously however, the player has sex by playing a game instead of being directly rewarded with pornography.

Hentai Game Player versus Regular Hero
Would rape | Would not rape
Would change opinion to suit female's wants | Has own opinions that don't change
Can restart life | Cannot restart life

Here is a question I am considering asking my gamers INGAME. Consider this... you build a lengthy rapport with one of the female characters of the game. She even wants to confess that she loves you but she does not EVER want to have sex with you. You then find yourself in a situation where you're alone with her, and you're the only person with a gun. You consider raping her. A dialogue box opens:

Would you like to rape her? Note: This choice is permanent. You will never be able to choose the other choice, even on different playthroughs.

[Yes.] [No.]

The decision you make would be true. I could program it so that only with a lengthy battle with your computer would you be able to redo the choice. I'd imagine this would make some people very angry. For some people, the choice would be very clear.

Yes rape- I'm playing this for hentai! And who cares about this woman's feelings? She's just a fictional character!!

No rape- I'm playing this to be a hero. Heroes do not rape women. I'd rather see what happens if she loved me instead of having sex. I might be playing a hentai game, but it's also a game.

The purpose of this permanent question is to have the player reevaluate his reason of playing and the inherent limitations of a "dating simulator" that offers no real consequences.

I am wondering what the next question will be....

  1. Huh. That... I'm not sure if I find that funny or depressing.

And by "that," I mean the segment here, the situation that provokes it, and... well, the idea of self-aware robots in general and sex bots in particular treated as expendable tools.

...Except those last two are pretty much just depressing.

  2. While I can understand your whole ethical battle there with the last part, I'm not sure you really want to do that. Think about it, you'd be forcing them to re-evaluate what they're doing. Now, some people welcome these challenges. However, this will alienate and worry a lot more. Seriously, if you were ever faced with something like this, you might respond immediately. But, later you'd go - Hang on. Did that seriously just happen? - and then there'd be more problems. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that some people will think you're forcing views on them, although that's probably not what you intend.

While it's unlikely that you'll ever read this, or that many people will, less even follow my logic or, heavens forbid, agree with me, at least the point is out there. This is the sort of thinking that will get you into trouble.

From the point of view of someone with questionable sanity and morals, I give you this - think not just about what they'll think about the question and consequences, but also the consequences of even asking the question at all.

Now, I'm a straightforward No way in hell kind of guy. It's just who I am. But you do have to realise, it's the sort of thing that some people have never had to face, and, truth be told, if they DO face it, there are not just digital ramifications. Sure, I could just be rambling, and no, I don't imply you'd create a serial rapist, but there's always someone who takes things too far.

On your earlier little story part - artificial sentience is worrying. Logic dictates that humans are incapable of managing life, ecosystems, nearly anything. We're flawed. But people don't want to know that. Ignorance is bliss after all. Sure, making people think is a good thing, I welcome it, but many don't.

I'm not viewing this as a "hey, we just want porn dammit" person, you said you wanted it to be equally story driven. I like that, it shows there's a middleground. I enjoy a good story. As someone who reads every single text box, I like that you put thought into it. But sometimes, issues are better left buried.

    1. I think you're grasping at straws here against the inclusion of issues.

The robots achieving sentience is really overplayed. I, Robot, Ghost in the Shell, Blade Runner, Ergo Proxy, Star Trek...eugh too many examples.

That's why in AD3's future, sentience itself is overdone. Robots "spring to life" all the time, but man has many safeguards against it.

Blade runner is a good example of an action movie with deep philosophical undertones, but you don't need to understand the issues to enjoy the movie. My aim is similar, but my medium in delivering it is different. Games require interaction.

I might stretch the "breast" character further by giving it sentience again later on, and even if I did that, I don't think it would be too preachy.

Preachy. That's what this is about right? Is this game trying to be too preachy? What is too preachy? Is asking a question preachy? Kinda, yeah. And there's a lot of those issues I want to include in the game simply because they interest me.

Jodie Foster was stalked by John Hinkley Jr. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hinckley,_Jr.
Apparently he took the movie Taxi Driver too far and tried to assassinate Reagan. My game is asking the player if he wants to rape a girl. Crazies might copy works, but they were still crazy before that anyway. Besides, I'm trumped by Rapelay.

Well anon, what's the worst that could happen?
I'll probably get raged by a few people that ask why they can't have both ways, and I'll respond that I sold them a game, and that's part of the game. And then more people would complain about aching dreams not being free. Ah well.

    2. Err, right, maybe I did take it a bit too far. I'm just saying, it's a rather creepy premise to say the least.

  4. This is what I think about the choice (Yes/No) in the game. Let's take as an example another game that has the most immersive story in video gaming except for the end: mass effect. What made the game that immersive is the fact that your choices are going to influence all your game and the games following it.

the most beautiful part of all of it is that you can start the game all over again and see how it works out if you make different choices. That's what makes a game wonderful. the fact that you have choices in it, but you aren't bound by them. You can start the game and see how it plays differently.

I know only one place where you can't undo what you have done. Real life. personally I don't want a game where my choices cannot be undone. I don't want a game where I can only see half of it because the developers like it to be that way. I want the full content and see how the game will play out if I make different choices.

Now, I don't understand why you would do something like that, I don't like it but I respect your choice of doing it since it's your game. But don't count on me for buying it if my choices in there are definitive.

    1. I think you missunderstand, the choices you make are only definitite for that run through. AD 1 and 2 and mass effect were the same, after you complete a run through then you just start over and make different choices this time.

No where did he say that the choices were permenate for like ever unless I misunderstand the issue you have and I seriously doubt he's going to make us pay for each new run through.

One last thing, don't threaten him with the whole "Count me out then if it's like that" it's rude and franky makes you sound like an ass even more so if you later find out your wrong.

      Delete
    2. First I'm not threatening, just pointing out that I wont play a game where the choices are permanent. second here I quote the author :"Would you like to rape her? Note: This choice is permanent. You will never be able to choose the other choice, even on different playthroughs." This clearly means that once you make your choice you wont be able to make the other choice, even if you star the game again.

    4. It's kind of funny that most consumers will tell you that you should vote with your dollars. It's a binary signal, Buy or No Buy, but with an independent game scene it's actually backwards since I do listen.

That said, not buying a game due to a single choice is kind of ridiculous. Let's say the game was worth 15 dollars. Well, now I guess it's worth 14 dollars to you. Is it like spitting in your food, so that all of your food is spoiled? No. There's still a lot of content to enjoy, and punishing a developer for trying to innovate at a single point of the game (and it really is, just one single choice), is ridiculous.

      Delete
    5. you're taking it the wrong way. I'm not punishing you. If you make that choice you'll be putting something in the game that I don't like. and I don't want to buy something that I don't like that's it. That's the way I am. for example, I played (illegally) mass effect one and two loved them, so I bought the games. I also loved mass effect 3 but didn't like the ending. now the ending it's like 2 minutes for a 30 hours game but still I wont by it unless bioware doesn't change the ending. I simply don't want to buy something that in my opinion has unforgivable flaws in it. Again it is my opinion and I strongly recommend those who read this to make their own decision and not to follow my actions.

JUST one decision. I think it would be fun.

    1. You kind of lost me, by permanent do you mean that even if we started a new game we couldn't change it? Or is it a decision that's preset in the story like saying yes you would go on that quest in older games. If it's the later then wouldn't it be just part of the story and not a choice? I'm confused.

    2. To be clear...

-I haven't decided if I want to go through with it yet
-It would involve a relationship that had no sex prior to it
-It would be a permanent choice. You can't do anything inside the game to reverse your decision, and the easiest way to go back would be to play on a different computer.
-It's only one choice that either leads to rape or leads to friendship.
-If you pressed rape, for instance, and you played the game again, the game would inform you of your choice on the second playthrough and say "well, you chose rape, so you must choose rape this time as well"

  7. I like the idea of the choice, but not of making it so I can't change it on a different play through. And I know that you haven't decided anything, but I'd still like to discuss it a bit. See, I'm a completionist player- IE when I play games, I go for all endings that I can. To have a thing that I can't go for would be a slight annoyance. Now it wouldn't stop me playing the game, and I love your reasoning behind it- to show almost the true 'colour' of players. And making it an impactful choice on the story. All of these things I'm in favour of, and a good shift from the previous games, which had a more hentai focus to them. But to make it so, even if I'm a different play through, acting as a different style character, I still will make the same choice over and over again, that is something that I would disagree with. But it's still your game, and all I hope to do is give another perspective on the issue.

    1. And I thank you for your perspective on it.

      We have two options.
-No permanent choices- Same great taste!
-Add a single permanent choice- I would say this is to risk greatness. It might fail and piss a lot of people off, but it also might be very favorable and powerful.

      Hmm. I like risk.

  8. It's not going to be technically possible to force people to 1 decision. Anybody with moderate computer knowledge will be able to get around it. Instructions on how to get around it will be posted to the Internet, and people who aren't good with computers will be able to Google it.

In the end, you will only be forcing a minor inconvenience upon people. And I doubt anyone will appreciate your reasoning for wanting to try it. It will just get chalked up to poor programming/game design.

    1. Wow. It's not like a password system that's suppose to inconvenience you. You're being directly asked, just this one time, and the choice is permanent. The experience is based on your reaction to the question. I am not trying to force people into one decision as I am merely trying to evoke a strong emotion.

We play video games and take billions of bullets and stab wounds, yet we never really fear death. If all of the sudden your immortality was taken away, your one remaining life would become much more exciting.

  9. I'm surprised so many are against it. I love the idea of a permanent choice. Sure, I'd probably hop on a different computer and play it through the other way once myself, but I'd still like the permanent choice aspect.

Doing that makes it so you really own that choice. It demands a bit more player involvement. I say go for it.

    1. The game does belong to a community. Due to the technical difficulties of running a vote when there's so few people involved in it, I can't run a vote.

As much as I would like to make this a democracy, all I can do is weigh different opinions and make my own decision.

      Delete
  10. I'm going to be responding to the 'permanent choice' part here, as the self-aware AI issue has been discussed so many times it's just become comedy fodder now...

If I may point you towards Star Wars: The Old Republic, which has a similar system to a 'permanent choice'. True, you can replay the entire game to get the choice again, but once you click that button, there's no quickload, and it would take *days* to get back into the same situation. And despite the fact that the choices have no real effect, they still hit pretty hard, and I've probably deliberated over an end-of-act choice as much as a serious real-life choice because of it (as in a single player game, I can always change my mind).

So yeah, I quite like the idea of having *one* permanent choice somewhere, just for interest. Although it'll be really, really easy to program my way around should I so choose. That said, I don't like the idea of the permanent choice being rape/don't-rape. Too black/white for me, and it isn't even a choice to me. Even in a hentai game...

    ReplyDelete
  11. Normally I wouldn't mind having a sort of permanent path, I mean it is a very thought provoking sort of option.

    However, I see two problems.

The first problem is rather simple: Accidents happen. The cat could bump into you at the wrong time. A startling sound could cause a jump and make you swerve over to the wrong choice. You're the type of person who hates certain types of dialogue scenes and keep clicking...right onto an option you didn't want. Point is, the permanence is thought provoking, but the accidental wrong click is infuriating.

Secondly is the problem of the audience. To best explain this, I'll use myself as an example. I personally like these 'choose your own adventure' formats primarily because I can restart and find whole new paths to different stories. So, naturally, when coming to that important permanent decision, I would feel cheated out on the other side of the story, and surely I wouldn't be the only one. So, in short, the option to make it permanent, while thought provoking, is also somewhat restricting to me.

Anyways, that's my two cents on the subject.
