End of December

AD3 progress: Still in production. It has a tentative March to August release date. I'll have a more accurate guesstimate for you later. This month, I worked on an assortment of things, but mostly writing. It's taking me longer than expected, but there is a lot of content to write here. I assure you, the writing is a lot better in AD3 than it was in AD2.

Myself: December was a jolly month for me. The first two weeks were stressful. I wasn't getting enough sleep due to stress, and I lost a few days due to video game marathon runs. After that, my sister got back home, and I've been spending a lot of time with her. I spent a bit more money and time than I would have liked to with family, but on the plus side, as soon as she got back, my sleeping problems went away. I am led to believe that I have sleep problems due to stress, and the stress can be relieved by having some sort of social life. I'll try to schedule in some time with my board gaming friends.

My 2013 year was good. The previous year was a depressing one due to the stress of a past relationship. By the beginning of 2013, I'd become comfortable, content even, with being single. My 2013 resolution was to stop playing video games, but while that didn't last very long, I did do much better in moderating the amount of games I played. Spring was great; Offbeatr and Kickstarter were a huge boost to morale. The trailer itself took a great deal of time to make. In the summer, I was testing the game's mechanics mostly, with some story concepts and some art being done. Fall and Winter were when things really picked up, and most of the art was finished. My network of friends degraded to a few close ones. I've stopped a caffeine addiction. I've gained a lot of discipline and some muscle mass too. It was a good year. Wouldn't want to relive it though.

As for 2014: One resolution: Finish AD3. Fuck it. No video games this year. Let's see how long I last.

Report: Today went pretty well. I was a bit more laid back today, but I got a lot of stuff done around the house and took care of myself. Towards the end, I got pretty obsessive over some minor details. I'll admit that I even drew up a quick map of the different planets just to scale transit times. I'm not even going to show it to anyone, it's just for my own reference. Grade B+.

10a0- Woke up. I experimented with trying to work without a schedule, but I was not satisfied with the results. The reason being, while the schedule does indeed have stress, it's also somewhat comforting to have a sort of order. I long for it.

3p5- Worked on T-rooster. I think I'll switch the rooster feet back to T-Rex. I think a lot of monsters in media aren't scary. I'm not saying I don't find horror movies scary, but what's usually scary is the atmosphere surrounding the monster. When you see the monster in a clearly lit room, it really loses its scare. Then again, I don't think I could do better, so all of the alien/monsters in AD3 will be kinda cute.

Report- It's good to be blogging again. Expect more boring daily posts like today's, because story scripting is the biggest chunk that is left to be finished. That's not to say that I'm making this all up as I go along; I plotted out all of the story a long time ago, but now I'm going back in and actually writing these out into detailed scripts. Today was different though, because a few things I initially wrote didn't fit into what I'm writing now, (I hadn't thoroughly considered them before) so I had to make a few revisions that took a few hours to go over. 8:20a0- Woke up. I didn't get much sleep, probably 4h. I am really tired! The facts of sleep, tiredness, and naps are highly elusive to me. Usually, I try to get more sleep, which results in me feeling tired throughout the day (as naps are bad). So! Today, I will try a new approach. I will try to go to sleep after staying up for 8h instead of 16h.

Report: After a week of not playing video games, I decided to play a game for an hour. The hour turned into a whole day. I didn't even get any exercise. I just hid in the HenCave, playing along while the video game's arbitrary leveling limits made me feel like a "winner". What can I take from this? The concept of "Moderation is Key" is all but lost on me. I've learned to savor the feeling of accomplishment after a hard day's work, but I need to learn to dread the feeling of an entirely wasted day. Grade F. (That's 2 F's this month.)

The four flying things are gravity generators, and were made in 3D to give a high tech look. The ISS uses old fashioned centrifugal gravity to keep everyone from floating away. New gravity generators exist that can surround an object (Olga in this case) and emit configurable gravity fields. One would assume that the cost of these generators are prohibitively expensive, which is why they are not in use across the station. The bikini plates are not pushed against Olga, so the gravity generators can repulse off a specified object as well, similar to repulsor lifts from the Star Wars landspeeder. Then again...

Raisin Bran: My previous cereal choice of Honey Bunches and Oats was tastier, however Raisin Bran has better nutrition with more iron, fiber, magnesium, and zinc (mag and zinc being important for game development). It sure gets boring to eat though. A-.
PopTarts, Strawberry: Ever since I stopped drinking Cola, I've been looking for a substitute of intake in sugar. I noticed that if I don't have enough processed bad sugar, I can't function for the day, so I must be an addict. PopTarts does a good job of filling in that role. It is tasty. I do not enjoy how their pastries are packaged by two, when I wish to only have one. This is a huge nitpick for me, but then again, these reviews are for me only. B-.
V8, Low Sodium- Normal V8 is one of my favorite drinks. Wait, now that I don't drink Cola, it IS my favorite drink. The Low Sodium version is a much healthier alternative as normal had 25% of recommended sodium. It's a healthy compromise, but I can't help but frown when I drink it... this V8 has lost it's zing. A+.

Report: I have not played video games for a week, due to my assertion that I haven't earned the time to play them. I'm not entirely sure if that is a good idea. I was not very effective today, despite having ample amounts of rest. For some reason, I was very moody today, like an emotional rollercoaster. Usually, I am a robot that only worries about efficiency. Today's emotions were in error. Reading today's log, it appears my efficiency was not that bad at all. But I am not satisfied. We walk past the kitchen and back into the adjoining hallway with no incident.

The locker room exudes an unbearable stench. It place is covered with wax. Most of the time it just sticks against your shoe and builds up, but in worst case scenarios, it’ll cut you off from other parts of the station.  

There’s a corpse sitting against the shower wall receiving a drizzle from the shower head. He’s not moving. We search the room for any zombies, and there aren’t any. Plenty of corpses though.

Zoe: Do you remember what Jake looks like?
Captain: Vaguely. Asian, dark hair, about as tall as you.
Zoe: He’s an inch shorter than me.
Captain: Huh. Okay. Let’s start looking. There’s a door that’s jammed open on the east side. Let’s split up, I’ll take the east side.
Zoe nods to me. We start going over the corpses.

Zoe: Well, he didn’t die here. He might be still alive.
Captain: He might be a zombie. This place is ground zero. The Iacchans must have planted some sort of concentrated gas here to turn most of the people into zombies in a matter of minutes. Some of the crew members shot each other. Some committed suicide. Some just died from asphyxiation with the gas levels. Or uhh… that’s my take on it.
Zoe: So where is the gas now?
Captain: From what the doctor tells me, the gas is a collective life form. It was mostly inhaled by the zombies so they could spread the love. The rest of it should have died out from exposure.
Zoe: So what does that mean for Jake?
Captain: He’s probably a zombie. We’ve killed a lot of those.

Captain: Let’s go then.
Zoe: Can’t you do something? Why don’t we shoot it off?
Captain: It’ll attract too much noise. Let’s go.
Zoe: No.
Captain: You need to stop obsessing over him.
Zoe: You don’t know what it’s like. Step back.
Captain: Shit.
Zoe pulls out her magnum and blasts the lock. The locker opens. Zoe pulls a brief smile to me and starts plowing through the items. I cover her.
Zoe: What’s this? Meet me at ‘Alien Faceburgers’ on Tuesday?
Captain: Tuesday was Invasion Day.
Zoe: Then he didn’t even go to the bachelor party on that day. Signed by ‘R’? Who’s R?
Captain: Zoe, it sounds like he was cheating on you.

Captain: Or not. What if he was in some sort of top secret mission? How would she even get in here?

We hear some noises coming from outside.

Living abroad is still an option that I will reconsider for production of future titles.

7p8- Worked a little on beatriceBikini. So I was looking for Beatrice's bikini from AD2S on my computer... but I couldn't find the file. I decided to take a different approach and simply beat AD2S to see the bikini again. So I played AD2S for the first time in a long time. It took me 40 minutes to see that damn bikini, holding spacebar and all! This game's tough! It took a long time to forget all the things I did on that game. And the backgrounds were really rushed. It turns out all I did for that game was draw 4 inch by 2.5 inch pencil drawing for backgrounds, and then I oversized that and simply colored it. They look kind of crude, but kind of... nice. This nice crummy feel to it. And I totally forgot that I use to do it like that. In conclusion... AD2S did not take nearly as long to make, because I was not as much as a perfectionist. Drawing doesn't get easier, it only gets harder.

Wish I knew more about mechanical engineering. Her bicep is undergoing regenerative therapy with synthetic degradable sinew on the end there, with some plating at the end that gradually folds on itself as the muscle grows back. When fully grown, the muscles will be stronger than before. The forearm is her gun attachment with a magazine feeder and ammo indicator holes. The other sides have heat exhaust units that open and expose when she fires, as well as the power unit. Carmen on the other hand has the mega buster from Mega Man.

Report: Today sucked. I was pretty dang tired through the day, but I hung in there. 3 hours rated at 2 efficiency is horrible. Not even skipping today's hour of video games can make up for that. I think it's funny how intense these reports are getting though. Grade D+.

3p2- Ate a huge meal. Watched the People vs George Lucas documentary. Greedo shot first, not Han. If that makes Han into kind of a pussy, because he turns from a dangerous smuggler who kills without remorse into an Ewok loving smuggler that shot Greedo only in self defense, so be it. It's Lucas's right as an American to change his work as he sees fit. Just an opinion.
4p3- Cleaned up. Did some waking up stuff.

5p4- Worked on the restaurant scene. It's taking me a lot longer than expected to make a fast food joint... In the scene,  I drew a poster that says "5 Tacos for 5 Starbucks". Who cares? What a dumb poster. I think of it as a good reality check. This restaurant is just devoid of artistic expression. Now I'm not saying I'm approaching a sort of artist's block here, as I haven't stopped drawing... but it's certainly a "paint by the numbers" space food joint.

Should I work on every part of the game in equal detail, or do I selectively skip over some of the boring parts and work more on others? 

Maybe I should get creative. Maybe I should make some sort of mascot for this restaurant. Just throwing it out for shits and giggles, maybe Ronald McDonald's actually an alien, and there are a bunch of Ronald Aliens that are renown chefs throughout the galaxy.

But would it help immerse the player into the setting? I mean look at that chair on the right. Lifeless. Unspacey.

On the other hand, I really want to finish this game. I don't have unlimited time to make the game. Some parts of the game are parts I won't compromise on, like the guns. I did a good amount of research into them, so they look cool and feel cool to shoot.

I definitely have to choose what to focus on. A writer can write as little or as much as he pleases to fill a world its important details. He could simply write "You walk into the run down fast food joint and see cardboard Ronald Alien cutouts on display". Visual art tends to be more thorough, as there are expectations that the viewers have.

Time keeping on Iacchus-
Iacchus's year is 120 days. The days are 20 hours long. Earth culture is slow to adapt to new standards, so we still use the 12 month system for time keeping. A few characters are born off Earth, so Zoe and Olga's birthdays are on Star Dates, Veronica's uses the Mars Darian calendar, and Beatrice uses an antiquated system. Holidays are still very important to humans, so each daily episode of The Dark Planet is recorded in advance of their respective Earth dates (so if humans on Earth watch the Valentine's day episode, it would have been recorded 2 Iacchan days ago, which are only 20 hours long).

Feb 1st- Player's first day of playing.

Feb 10th- Victory Day. Walt Digknee's 4 year war with a Pro-Human agenda ends.

Feb 14th- Earthling's Valentine's Day

Feb 18th- Sentient Culture Day. Pick a sentient race and learn about their culture...or dress as them.

February 23rd- Thanksgiving Day. We thank the Zeroes for founding the Galactic Society system with 10 habitable planets/moons.

February 24th- Black Fry Day: The mourning day of the extinct Gangun race which perished due to a supernova. To a Black crisp, the Ganguns Fried, on this Day. Ironically, to most sentients, this is a celebrated day that everyone buys stuff.

March 2nd Zerothsmas Eve- Just a warning that Z-day is coming.

March 3rd- Zerothsmas Day- This day commemorates the rule of the Zeroes. Give and receive gifts.

March 8th- Earthling's Women's day. : This day should be controversial. To honor Women's day, I think the survivors should, for once, not run an episode of The Dark Planet (as the show clearly exhibits themes of sexual exploitation). Maybe we'll leave it up to the Captain. How about this, if the Captain decides to cancel  the show, every female survivor will raise their relationshipPoints with the Captain, but if he decides to cancel it, the show will lose 2 million viewers.

March 12th- Isabel's birthday.

March 17th- Earthling's St. Patrick's Day- Unofficially recognized holiday. Some characters will prefer to drink (Zoe, Larissa, and Carmen wants natural oil). Isabel would just prefer to wear green (imagine a four leaf clover on her hat, haha).

March 19th- Captain's birthday. Also, Hentaicook's birthday (perhaps we could make this a sale day for AD3, wouldn't it be nice to be spammed birthday wishes...)

March 25th- Truce Day. The Zeroes and the Ones made peace on this day. This means that all the survivors on the station have to kiss and make up with their rivals= lesbian kiss day

Ten days ago...

Day Four since Invasion Day-

EarthGov wouldn’t send us a ship... at least not a ship fast enough to get to us to safety within a few weeks. We had to make money.

We were in a conference call with the network executives at ZYX Broadcasting and Tyrell, the mining company that brought us here. The negotiations were fast, and we quickly settled on a contract to exclusively distribute the show "The Dark Planet" to audiences across the galaxy. 

The contract touched on many things. Our survivor crew was now part of the Televised Acting Group (TAG), a union that ensured that ZYX Broadcasting couldn’t oppressively dominate our acting schedules. Each TAG  member was paid for their acting, but the payment was to be held on Earth until we returned home. This gave a weird I.O.U. vibe to the group. Lieutenant Isabel issued promissory notes in place of money whenever we received money from either the show or commercials.

Thankfully due to a number of stations wanting to pick up the show, we were able to find a great deal. We only needed a month of footage but the deal also required a season of publicity deals, talk show endorsements, and a documentary when we got back home. The deal is risky because if we fall under a certain quota of viewership, the network execs would collect the footage without giving us a ride home. To get viewership, we would have to do commercials while on the station. Survival was no longer of the fittest, but of the fanciest!

All this, just so we could buy a vessel the size of a bus that would fit about 20 passengers and get us off the station.

Report: I did pretty well today for only 4 hours of sleep. I was highly efficient and motivated. I was afraid that today was going to be difficult, but I was wrong. I could have taken more difficult tasks in the middle of the day when my concentration was at its highest, but I was too lazy to switch. Sorry I don't have any visuals to show for the day. Grade A.

End of the Month: November

State of AD3: Will is programming the game. Unnamed animator is animating a scene. This month, I worked on story, gun poses, sprites, hentai animations, and introduced a new look for the Captain. I am disappointed with the speed of my progress, but I am impressed with my determination. The game will undoubtedly finish, but will not finish on the time I estimated back when I launched the kickstarter and offbeatr. The blog has allowed me to have a finer estimate on when the game will complete, and it will probably be a spring or summer release. We are working only on the base game, so any other type of pledge rewards will have to wait until the base game's completion.

Myself: I am doing well, never better. Insomnia was a major challenge of this month, but I believe I am in the process of overcoming it. I am in good health, and I have given up caffeine and replaced it with healthier alternatives. I wanted this game to come out in January, but I was unable to correctly estimate my ability to deliver the game in a timely manner. It pains me to realize that my years of youth have been entirely dedicated to the confinement of my room. I want to finish, and I can't wait to have a life. If you're wondering why I can't work on AD3 and have a life at the same time, I have tried that and I failed to properly focus my efforts on both areas. (Honesty is best served awkwardly) It's my hope that by the time I finish AD3, I will come out of this room a refined individual; someone who has something to offer society.

11:30a0- Woke. 6h of sleep, medium quality. Woke up a few times in the middle. With such sleep, I will find the latter part of the day difficult to retain focus in.

2p3- Did some long distance errands. Ate hot dog, large.
3p4- Going to try to improve efficiency by routinely switching projects. Cleaned workspace. Worked on magnumReference. Unusual since the gun was already drawn at different angles, but a finished profile magnum picture is still required for the game. Challenge rating- 5/10. Efficiency Rating- 10/10.
4p5- Talked briefly with writer that wants to help. Danced in room while waiting for roommate to vacate bathroom, butt ultimatum lead to drastic measures by breaking into other inhabitant's room to defecate.

Weird way to end a sex scene... it shows the Captain's character, who must be a manslut to make any sense in his world. My stance on it: It's a sort of environmental justification. An example of this is that poor people tend to have lower moral standards than rich people because poor people can justify their crimes. Attractive men are the same, they are easily approached by attractive mates. This male sexiness lowers the subject's ability to emotionally empathize with a woman's feelings and needs of emotional security. My theory is that attractive men are more likely to cheat or partake in an open relationship and end up compromising their current partner's well being. It's just a theory though.

I haven't done any 2D work to it yet. I am pretty bad at perspective so I usually end up making the basic shapes in a 3d program and then trace it over in 2D. I think the background is of acceptable quality at the moment to be in the game. Compare it to that gritty look below... The bottom one is obviously better. I will fix the top background at a later date, but only if there is time before the game releases.
